Poker From The Rail

It was an interesting week for your hack blogger as I made a trip south from my dungeon to sling chips with a few fellow scribes and basically solidify our status as a bunch of degenerates. There were cash games and a tournament which also locked my classification as a fishy donkey shove monkey but it was a great time. The highlight of my tournament action included drawing a seat directly to the right of poker legend Lee Jones and then hitting the rail before the first break. It was a great week that had a bunch of old school poker bloggers gather over adult beverages and finding anything we could to bet on. Great times that deserve their own trip report.

Between the cameras and commentators, it’s pretty easy to keep track of everything that’s going on at any table that’s getting media coverage. Even with that, there’s still one aspect that can’t be covered until after the fact: what’s going on in someone’s head when they’re making decisions that could double them up or send them to the rail.
Recently, Paul Wasicka was good enough to let us in on what was going through his head as a particularly memorable hand played out against Gus Hansen at the 2007 Aussie Millions. Here’s what he had to tell us:

Welcome back to another action-packed round of the Full Tilt Poker Heads-Up Challenge, where we take 64 of our top pros and pit them against one another in single-elimination tourney style death matches. OK, so we don’t actually get to kill anyone, but you get the idea. This week’s match is our second 4 seed versus 13 seed affair, with Paul “Second Place” Wasicka taking on Ben “I’m only a gentleman 98% of the time” Roberts. This ought to be a good one, fasten your seatbelts:
