Taylor Caby has been a casual poker player for a long time, but it wasn’t until about five years ago that he started playing online. Taylor says he got serious about the game in 2003 and immediately went to work building a bankroll by playing Sit & Gos. From there, he moved to low-limit ring games and, in less than two years, he was consistently winning at the 50/100 No-Limit Hold ‘em tables. In 2005, Taylor firmly established his reputation when he became the first player to defeat the then untouchable Prahlad “Spirit Rock” Friedman.

A Chicago native, Taylor graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Finance. He quickly put his degree to use as a co-founder of CardRunners where he still works as one of the site’s lead instructors. He has since been at the forefront of the game, re-defining aggressive concepts like three-betting and continuation betting.

Though he plays primarily online, Taylor is expanding his game to include live tournament play. In 2004, he cashed in the World Poker Tour’s $6,000 buy-in tournament in Aruba and recently, he went deep in the 2007 WSOP’s $3,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em event, pocketing more than $14K for his 24th-place finish.

His successes in poker have extended well beyond the felt. One of his opponents at the 50/100NL level, impressed by his play and intelligence, invited Taylor to New York City for the summer to be his apprentice at a prominent hedge fund.

When Taylor isn’t busy with the rigors of running an online business or playing poker, you can find him engaged in a wide range of sports or spending time with his friends. Asked what he likes best about the poker lifestyle, Taylor said that he appreciates the freedom that comes with being his own boss, as well as the travel and chances to meet new people that poker affords.
