Steve started playing poker in 1966 at the Cameo Club in Palo Alto, California. His game was No-Limit Ace-to-Five Lowball with a Joker in the deck. Steve began studying poker in 1993 as he planned his retirement from the computer software industry. He tried Texas Hold ‘em for the first time, and played local tournaments and Limit Hold 'em games. In the mid-1990s, he played his first major live tournament.
Steve has cashed in eleven World Poker Tour (WPT) and three WSOP events. He achieved his first notable finish in 1999, placing 8th in the WSOP $2.5K No-Limit Hold 'em event for $15K. In 2004 he reached the final table of the WPT $25K No Limit Championship, finishing 6th and banking more than $232K. In 2005, Steve finished 3rd in the $9.7K No Limit Hold ‘em event at the United States Poker Championship in Atlantic City, for almost $220K.
In 2009, Steve scored his first major tournament victory by taking down the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament. Playing through a field of over 300 players, he outlasted the competition at the longest final table in WPT history, which saw a record 319 hands dealt. Earning over $1 million in prize money – his biggest win to date – Steve boosted his career tournament earnings to more than $1.7 million.
