Indian born poker player Vivek Rajkumar moved to America to study and completed a degree in Computer Engineering and Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington. He worked in the computer industry for a year before deciding to take up poker on a full-time basis in 2006.
Vivek quickly built up his reputation and a loyal fan base with five cashes at the 2007 World Series of Poker. These included a 6th place finish in the $3,000 Limit Hold ‘em event for more than $35K and a 14th place finish in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold ‘em event for over $45K. That same year, Vivek also placed 13th in the $15,000 Five Diamond World Poker Classic, taking home more than $57K, as well as winning over $50K in the $9,800 No-Limit Hold ‘em Championship Event at Caesars Palace.
Vivek's success continued in 2008. He started the year with a win in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold 'em event at the L.A. Poker Classic for over $110K and continued with three cashes at the WSOP. He then achieved his biggest and most prestigious win to date, taking 1st place in the World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open Main Event, walking away with more than $1.4 million. Vivek set a WPT record by needing only 48 hands at the final table to secure his victory.
His highlight of 2009 was victory at the LA Poker Classic Heads Up Championship, which earned him $350K.
In 2011, Vivek finished runner up at the LA Poker Classic – Championship event, worth $908K. He followed this in March by finishing fourth at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament in San Jose, to add a further $295K to his winnings.
